The Black-Capped Piprites is a graceful small bird, a passerine of the Pipridae family. It measures about 4 to 5 inches and weighs 0,52 ounces. It has a rust-brown coloration, with a distinct black crown on its head, yellow and white feathers, as well as a tail with black and rust-brown feathers. Its beak and legs are yellowish orange, standing out from the dark plumage.
Its diet includes fruits and insects. It can be found in the Atlantic Forest, mainly in areas with Araucaria trees. The species is rare and scattered, being considered vulnerable. Its distribution includes the Southeast and South of Brazil, with sights in Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Paraná, Santa Catarina, and Rio Grande do Sul. It's also present in the northeastern region of Argentina (Misiones). The Black-Capped Piprites is a distinctive inhabitant of Araucaria forests, contributing to regional biodiversity.
